Happy New Year! In Cantonese.

Crispy-fried noodles and shrimp dumplings here. We’re in Hong Kong, ringing in the Year of the Dragon. As on the Mainland, lots of people are gathered around TVs, watching the New Year’s variety show special. Unlike China Central Television’s grandiose production, however, the Hong Kong station’s version appears to have been produced with a lot less money, and, for the women performers, a lot less clothing. Ah, free media. 新年快乐 / Saan nin faai lok!

    Happy New Year!

  2. Great Gramma Freeman

Did you try the escalator that comes down the mountain in the morning to bring people to work and goes up the mountain in the late afternon to take the residents home? It is done in segments but we thought it was fascinating to see the neighborhoods up the mountain. Also Grampa loved riding back and forth from the mainland to Hong Kong because seniors didn’t have to pay and with his white hair he would go to the “senior” line. But the main square was blanket to blanket on Sunday morning after church when all the household staff would be sitting out and meeting their friends.
